The paintings in this series are landscapes based in looking at and experiencing natural areas intersecting with development. These are places in which I spend time. I am drawn to the visually compelling in nature. At the same time the beauty and sentiment I experience is charged with the knowledge of use and abuse of the natural environment either because of industry, commerce or infrastructure needs.
Here is a yearning for the past and, at the same time, an understanding that change is ever ongoing.
The paintings reflect celebration of and anxiety about our natural environment and a sense of release in the experience of the natural world. They attempt to acknowledge the complexity and multiple meanings found in the transformation of the natural environment.
